Over the听summer,听faculty and听an alumnus听from听Palm 黑料吃瓜网听Atlantic听University鈥檚听(PBA)听Gregory听School of听Pharmacy (GSOP)听received three听awards听recognizing their听contributions to听the听field听of听pharmacy听in Florida.听The听honorees are听Dean听of听GSOP,听Dr. Dana听Strachan, who听received听the听Florida Pharmacy Association IPA Roman Maximo听Corrons听Inspiration & Motivation Award;听Professor and Chair of Pharmacy Practice,听Dr.听Elias听Chahine, who was听named听Pharmacist of the Year;听and听alumnus听Dr.听Oscar Santalo,听who听received听The FSHP Dave Osterberger Excellence in Pharmacy Leadership Award.听The awards are decided and distributed by the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FSHP), an organization that continues to听cultivate听community听and听advocacy听for听pharmacists in Florida.听听
The Awards听
Dr.听Strachan听was awarded听the听Florida Pharmacy Association IPA Roman Maximo听Corrons听Inspiration & Motivation Award听for听her contributions to听motivating pharmacists in the field while continuing to advocate for and advance the profession.听Strachan has been involved in leadership roles both in the past and currently with FSHP and the Florida Pharmacy Association (FPA).听She听noted that these roles have allowed her to pour into her passion for pharmacy and for people themselves,听which closely correlates to her being a recipient of this award.听
Chahine听received听the most distinguished award,听as听Pharmacist of the Year.听The award is听given to a pharmacist who continues to听demonstrate听proficiency听across听all听their听academic work along with听their听leadership roles.听Chahine served as the FSHP President in听2021to听2022.听While听he has contributed听to听roles like听these,听he听has also听continued to听maintain听his educational role as a professor听and听balanced听his own academic pursuits.听His dedication to his craft has furthered the mission of both FPA and FSHP听as he continues听to听inspire his colleagues and students to听approach the field of pharmacy with diligence and passion.听听
听鈥淭o听see him听[Chahine]听committed to听all of听his responsibilities here at the school,听but then he takes the time to serve the profession and听demonstrate听scholarly work… It just speaks volumes to the type of individual, the mentor, the pharmacist that he is,听and I’m incredibly proud of him because it just really shines a light on him, on the Gregory听School of听Pharmacy, and on PBA,鈥� said Strachan.听听
听The听FSHP Dave Osterberger Excellence in Pharmacy Leadership Award,听received by听Santalo, is听reserved听for a pharmacist who has presented strong leadership skills听while also expressing and allowing for听innovation听in their management practices in program and service improvement.听His award highlights the听aspects of听empathy-based听care听that are included in an education from听GSOP. These teachings听encourage听pharmacists听to听desire听to care for听both听the staff under them and the people they are serving听in a more听individual听manner. This allows for听new ideas听and practices to be created and then implemented.听
听The Greater Impact听
The awards that were听received听by these faculty and alumni听shine a light not only on听GSOP听but听also听on the environment fostered at听PBA. For听current and prospective听students,听it is听critical听in听helping them听realize that听GSOP is not听offers听the听highest听quality听faculty, but听it听also听remains听focused on听learning in a Christ-first听institution. From this, students are provided with an听even greater outlook on why their work听matters.听From this,听student听gain an听even better听understanding听of why听their听work听matters听and听how听they听can听pursue various fields in听pharmacy听while continuing to glorify Christ by exemplifying servant leadership, providing听empathy-based听care, and spreading the light of Christ wherever their path takes them.听听
