Former Dean of School of Arts and Sciences Remembered

Dr. Jeffrey Wayne Stout, former dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, died March 27 at the age of 62.

Stout recently lived in Sycamore, Ohio. His calling was furthering the mission of Christian colleges, and he passionately taught history and served in a variety of administrative positions at colleges in Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, Kentucky and Minnesota, including at Palm ϳԹ Atlantic in the early 2000s.

“He left a big impact on PBA’s School of Arts & Sciences because as the dean, he hired a number of our current faculty who have accumulated records of quality teaching and scholarship,” said Dr. Wes Borucki, associate professor of history, whom Stout hired in 2003.

Stout earned four degrees: a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education administration from Ohio University, a Doctor of Arts in history from Illinois State University, a Master of Arts in international affairs from Ohio University and a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Cincinnati.

He loved to teach adult Sunday School, sing old gospel songs, fish and watch old movies, according to his obituary.

The son of Edwin Wayne Stout and the late Meda Jane Stout, he was the first baby born in Marietta, Ohio, in 1958. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marcia Ann Stout, and two sons, Jair Conan Stout and Ian Wayne Stout. He also is survived by two brothers, Greg and Mark Stout, and extended family.

Visitation for family and friends will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 at the First Church of Christ in Caldwell, Ohio. A memorial service will follow visitation at 11 a.m. McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, Ohio, is caring for the family.
