Biography

Zijian (Terry) Weng, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and leads the EPIC Lab (Electrostatic Printing of Integrated Circuits). His interdisciplinary research lies at the intersection of electrostatic and plasma-enabled manufacturing, functional materials, flexible and wearable electronics, tactile sensing and electronic skin (E-Skin), and technologies that connect physical systems with intelligent data and control.

Dr. Weng’s work advances Automated Electrostatic Patterning (AEP), an ultrafast, binder-free approach for assembling functional powders into two- and three-dimensional structures. His research spans flexible sensors, multifunctional E-Skins, semiconductor and thin-film processing, smart materials, plasma-enabled disinfection, and scalable manufacturing. He is an inventor on an issued U.S. patent and an author or co-author of peer-reviewed publications in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, Environmental Science & Technology, Journal of Materials Chemistry C, and Materials Research Letters. His projects emphasize interdisciplinary and industry collaboration to translate laboratory discoveries into useful devices and manufacturing processes.

At PBA, Dr. Weng integrates research with undergraduate engineering education. His teaching spans electrical circuits, microelectronics, control systems, engineering computation, engineering mathematics, CAD and prototyping, embedded and digital systems. He mentors students in sensor fabrication, electronics and embedded-system development, modeling, materials characterization, and data analysis, helping them connect foundational engineering knowledge with open-ended, real-world problems. His educational approach emphasizes technical excellence, responsible innovation, service, and the integration of faith and learning.

Before joining PBA in 2025, Dr. Weng held academic and industrial research and development roles in process engineering, advanced manufacturing, materials characterization, and laboratory leadership. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida, his M.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Technology from Beijing University of Chemical Technology.

Outside the classroom and laboratory, Dr. Weng enjoys offshore fishing, skiing, outdoor travel, and building connections through Christian communities.
